Special Education
SDUHSD is committed to providing a Free and Appropriate Public Education for all students found eligible under the guidelines of the Individuals with Disabilities Act. The Special Education department works collaboratively with school and district leaders, teachers, students, and families to provide the tools, guidance, supports, and services needed to ensure access and success for students with exceptional needs.
As an integral part of the SDUHSD public education system, the special education department ensures education is provided in a manner that promotes maximum interaction between children or youth with disabilities and children or youth who are not disabled, that is appropriate to the needs of both. SDUHSD provides a full continuum of program special education service options to meet the educational needs of students in the least restrictive environment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a TAI class?
Targeted Academic Intervention (TAI) classes are courses in a student's schedule based on their IEP needs and goals. Support classes address curriculum such as skill building in English, mathematics and executive functioning.
What is the difference between a case manager and a TAI class teacher?
A TAI class teacher has students from one grade level enrolled in the course and is the teacher of record for that period, responsible for that course's grade, etc. A case manager has a caseload of students assigned to them, and manages those students' IEPs. Staff at CCA serve in both capacities.
Who do I contact if my special education student is struggling in a class?
Your first contact should always be your case manager. They are most familiar with your IEP, goals, and needs. Their role is also to support facilitation among other CCA staff to support your success.
